Ingredients
Method
Prepare the Cake
- If using a box cake mix, follow the instructions on the package to bake the chocolate cake.
- If you prefer to make it from scratch, prepare your favorite chocolate cake recipe.
- Allow the cake to cool completely before cutting it into small cubes.
Whip the Cream
- In a large mixing bowl, add the heavy cream, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract.
- Use an electric mixer to whip the cream until soft peaks form. Be careful not to over-whip it.
Prepare the Cherries
- If using canned cherries, drain them and keep the juice. You can also use fresh cherries if you prefer.
- Slice the cherries in half or leave them whole, depending on your preference.
Assemble the Trifle
- In your trifle or glass bowl, add a layer of chocolate cake cubes at the bottom.
- Add a layer of whipped cream over the cake.
- Add a layer of cherries, followed by a layer of vanilla pudding.
- Repeat these layers until all ingredients are used, finishing with a layer of whipped cream on top.
- Sprinkle dark chocolate shavings over the top. Dust with cocoa powder for extra decoration if desired.
Let it Chill
- Cover the trifle with plastic wrap and place it in the refrigerator.
- Chill for at least 2 hours before serving so that the flavors meld together.
Notes
This dessert is best served cold. Store in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. It is not recommended to freeze the trifle as the whipped cream may not hold its texture after thawing.
