Ingredients
  

For the cake
  • 1 can crescent rolls
  • 1 package boudin sausage remove from casing before mixing
  • 1 cup shredded cheese any cheese of your choice
  • 1 egg for egg wash beaten
  • optional green, gold, and purple sprinkles for decoration

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Roll out the crescent rolls on a baking sheet to form a large rectangle.
  3. In a bowl, mix the boudin sausage (removed from casing) and shredded cheese.
  4. Spread the sausage and cheese mixture in a line down the center of the crescent roll rectangle.
  5. Fold the sides of the crescent rolls over the filling to create a 'cake' shape.
  6. Beat the egg and brush it over the top of the cake.
  7. Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown.
  8. If desired, decorate the top with colored sprinkles to celebrate Mardi Gras.
  9. Allow to cool slightly before slicing and serving.

Notes

Serve warm for the best flavor. This dish pairs well with small bowls of mustard, hot sauce, or a mayo-based dip on the side. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days or freeze for up to 1 month.
