  • 10 cups cubed day-old bread
  • 4 cups broccoli florets
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 8 large eggs
  • 2 cups milk can be low-fat or almond milk for a lighter option
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, salt, pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder.
  3. In a greased 9x13 inch baking dish, layer half of the cubed bread, followed by half of the broccoli, and half of the cheddar cheese. Repeat the layers with the remaining ingredients.
  4. Pour the egg mixture evenly over the strata. Press down slightly to ensure everything is soaked.
  5. Cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours or overnight.
Baking
  1. Bake uncovered in the preheated oven for 1 hour 25 minutes to 1 hour 35 minutes until the center is set and the top is golden brown.
  2. Let it cool for a few minutes before serving.

Notes

Store cooled strata in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days. Freeze in single servings for up to 2 months. Thaw in the fridge overnight and reheat in the oven or microwave.
