Method
 

Preparation
  1. In a large pot, combine the chicken broth and shredded chicken. Bring to a simmer over medium heat.
  2. In a separate bowl, mix together the self-rising flour, milk, melted butter, salt, and pepper to form a batter.
  3. If using, add mixed vegetables to the chicken broth mixture.
Cooking
  1. Drop spoonfuls of the batter onto the simmering chicken mixture.
  2. Cover and cook for 25 to 35 minutes until the dumplings are fluffy and cooked through. Serve warm.

Notes

For meal prep, portion the chicken and broth into meal containers without dumplings. Add quick steamed vegetables and heat. Make dumplings fresh for best texture. Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container for up to 3 days or frozen for up to 3 months.
