Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, brown sugar, and vanilla until smooth.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt.
  4. Gradually add the flour mixture to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
  5. Fold in the chocolate chips (and any optional ingredients if desired).
Baking
  1. Drop rounded tablespoons of dough onto a lined baking sheet.
  2. Bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes or until golden around the edges.
  3. Remove from the oven and let cool for a few minutes on the baking sheet before transferring to a wire rack.
