  • 4 large Eggs Whisked with cream mixture
  • 1 tsp Nutmeg Freshly grated for best flavor
  • 1 tsp Vanilla Extract to flavor the custard

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Slice the bread into approximately 5/8 inch thick slices.
  2. In a shallow bowl, whisk together the eggs, cream, nutmeg, vanilla, and a touch of rum.
Cooking
  1. Warm a skillet on medium heat and add butter.
  2. Dip each slice of bread into the egg mixture, letting it soak briefly.
  3. Cook the soaked bread slices in the skillet until both sides are golden brown.
  4. Keep the cooked slices warm in a low oven while finished cooking the remaining slices.
Serving
  1. Serve warm on slightly warmed plates with sifted sugar and maple syrup on the side.
  2. Add toppings like fresh fruit or a dollop of Greek yogurt for enhanced nutrition.

Notes

Leftover French Toast can be stored in the fridge for up to 3 days or frozen for up to 1 month. Reheat slices in a toaster or oven. For healthier options, use sugar-free syrup and choose high-fiber sides.
