Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9x9 inch baking pan.
- In a large bowl, combine the melted butter and sugar. Mix until smooth.
- Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract and red food coloring.
- In another bowl, sift together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, stirring until just combined.
- Fold in the chocolate chips if using.
- Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and spread evenly.
Baking
- Bake for 20-25 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out with a few moist crumbs.
- Allow to cool before cutting into squares and serving.
Notes
These brownies are best served warm out of the oven but can be enjoyed at room temperature. They can be topped with whipped cream, ice cream, powdered sugar, or chocolate sauce for extra indulgence. To store, place in an airtight container at room temperature for 3-4 days or freeze for up to three months.
