  • 1 juice juice of 1 lemon Helps prevent browning and adds flavor.
  • 3/4 cup water Adjust as necessary depending on the consistency desired.
  • 1/2 to 3/4 cup sugar Adjust based on sweetness preference; use less for a low-sugar option.
  • 1/8 tsp cinnamon Enhances flavor.
  • 1 pinch nutmeg Adds a warm flavor.

Method

Preparation
  1. Peel and core the apples, then chop them into small chunks.
  2. Add the apples, lemon juice, water, and sugar to a large saucepan and bring to a boil.
  3. Reduce to a simmer and cook for 15 minutes, stirring as needed.
  4. Add the cinnamon and nutmeg, and cook for an additional 10 minutes or until the apples are super soft.
  5. Use a potato masher or an immersion blender to reach your desired consistency; leave some chunks if desired.
